HOW HUNGER IS SWITCHED ON OR OFF
There are sensors in the nose, mouth and throat that respond to the smell or taste of food by sending signals into the brain to increase hunger if the smell or taste is pleasant and decrease hunger if the smell or taste is unpleasant.
Once food has been eaten, there are sensors in the stomach and small intestine that detect the amount and type of nutrients that have been consumed. When the stomach is stretched and certain nutrients are detected in the intestines, hormones are released that trigger signals back to the brain to turn hunger off and activate digestion.
Certain nutrients are more effective than others at activating that hunger “off” switch that stops you eating more. Water and carbohydrates for example, do not have much effect on these sensors. That’s why you can eat an apple when you are hungry but it doesn’t do much to satisfy that hunger. In fact, the presence of sugar from the apple can stimulate an increase in hunger.
It turns out the most effective nutrients to turn hunger off are oils and fats. In fact, there are a number of places in the Bible where a meal is described as being satisfying when it is “well oiled”.
As it turns out, some fats activate the hunger off switch more than others. So some fats will turn off hunger better than others and some fats actually make it harder to turn hunger off.
FAT FATS AND SKINNY FATS
Research in humans and animals has found that the length and degree of ‘saturation’ of the fat molecule are the main factors that determine how well it will activate the anti-hunger hormones. The longer more unsaturated the molecule, the better it generally is at switching hunger off.
Saturated fats like those found in animal foods, coconut oil and chocolate – do not activate the off switch as well as other oils. It is easy to over-eat those foods because they contain sugar, flavors and aromas that switch hunger “on” but don’t contain the right fats to switch it “off” again.
Monounsaturated fats like those found in Olive oil and nuts cause a moderate release in anti-hunger hormones but it is the polyunsaturated fats, in particular the essential Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids that stimulate the biggest release of anti-hunger hormones and as human trials have shown, result in the greatest reduction in food intake and weight loss.
In particular, Omega 6 fatty acids Linoleic acid and Conjugated Linoleic acid have the strongest effect on anti-hunger hormones resulting in the greatest reduction of hunger and food intake. This makes sense, as the human body contains over 11 times more Omega 6 than Omega 3, Omega 6 is the most important fat in the body. So the body appears reluctant to say “stop eating” until it has received what it needs. Giving it essential Omega 6 satisfies it resulting in the “stop eating” signal being activated.
There are a few catches however. The kind of polyunsaturated fats found in fish oils have been shown to inhibit release of anti-hunger hormones. Also, when damaged, both mono and polyunsaturated fats can become trans fats. Research reveals that trans fats do not have any effect on the anti-hunger hormones and they are very dangerous to your health..
When you consider junk food with its pleasurable flavors and aromas is often loaded with saturated and/or trans fats, you can see how it can be hard to stop eating it. The more you eat the more strongly hunger gets stimulated and the only thing left to turn hunger off is your stomach being stretched as it fills up. When your stomach eventually empties hunger switches back on because your body is still waiting to be satisfied with healthy Omega 6 fats.
Research has also revealed that consistently eating the wrong fats over a long period of time makes your body less sensitive to the anti-hunger hormones. So it can become a vicious circle where it gets harder and harder to stop eating those wrong foods like a car with no breaks going down hill getting faster and faster. It takes more and more food to activate the “off” switch making the road to obesity a slippery slope.
HOW TO REPAIR YOUR BROKEN HUNGER HORMONES
The good news is that there are some easy ways to restore the sensitivity of your anti-hunger hormones to make it easier to start eating less.
The Endocannabinoid system is intimately involved in the regulation of hunger. Cannabinoids that inhibit the activity of the CB1 endocannabinoid receptor cause the anti-hunger hormones to regain their sensitivity. This means that the signal to “stop eating” gets easier to turn on.
Cannabinoids like CBD (Cannabidiol) and THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin) are effective at inhibiting that CB1 receptor.
Human research has shown that the strongest anti-hunger effect is triggered by oils that contain a high amount of Omega 6 Linoleic acid, a modest amount of Omega 3 Linolenic acid and small amounts of Conjugated Linoleic acid, Omega 9 and Saturated fat.
If you could combine an oil like that with some CBD or THCV you would have a potent anti-hunger elixir that can help you regain control of your eating, improve your health and lose weight more easily.
HEMP SEED OIL SUPPRESSES APPETITE AND BURNS FAT
Guess what – Hemp seed oil is that perfect oil. It contains the right amounts of essential Omega 6 and Omega 3 along with Conjugated Linoleic Acid and usually contains small amounts of CBD.
But isn’t Hemp seed oil fat and doesn’t eating fat make you fat? Not all fats are burned for energy and stored as fat. The Omega 6 and Omega 3 essential fats in Hemp seed oil aren’t burned for energy, they are structural fats that are needed in cell membranes for proper functioning of your metabolism and immune system. Think of Hemp seed oil as a ‘skinny’ fat.
Hemp seed oil can actually make it easier to burn fat. This is because the Omega 6 essential fats in Hemp seed oil are ideal for lowering inflammation and driving Oxygen into the cells as well as making Mitochondria, the fat burning factories, more efficient at burning fat with that Oxygen to create energy.
So if you want better control of appetite, easier fat burning, more energy, less pain and reduced disease risk, start adding Hemp seed oil and Cannabinoids like CBD to your daily diet but make sure you do not heat Hemp seed oil, heat will destroy its beneficial properties. Instead, drizzle a couple tablespoons of oil over your meal just before you eat it.
And if you want a total no-brainer approach to kick starting weight loss, try Hemp seed oil plus Nitro-V™, a Hemp extract naturally rich in CBD and THCV and clinically studied to cause rapid easy weight loss without diet or exercise.
